Basic Working Virus and Antivirus (Full Guide For Beginner)

Hey Friends, Today We Will discuss about the working of basics of viruses and antivirus.
Nowadays, everyone is engaged in their Mobile phones, laptops and Computers. Mostly all of them uses antivirus to protect themselves from viruses and Hackers attacks. But the Question is Are we really 100% Secured?  We will get the answer to this question at the end of this discussion.
As mentioned above everyone used antivirus. But do you know What Virus and Antivirus really is? And How antivirus is different form Malware?

Difference between Virus and Malware

Malware: The word Malware stands for “Malicious Software”. It is a program designed by the Hacker to infect, harm or damage the victim device. All the well-known major threats are a part of Malware. Thus it’s a vast term.
Virus: A Virus is a subset of Malware. It’s a piece of bad code mainly designed to replicate themselves. Once run on a system it rests in other program and has an ability to copy itself from one system to another. It can spread itself through Pen drives, Internet, Spam Emails etc.
Thus If we imagine, Then the Viruses, Trojans, Spywares, etc. All are the child of the parent Malware.


Common Types of Malware

Adware: Adware displays ads on the computer. It is the least dangerous among all the Malware. Example: When you try to download a software or game. Instead of game another .exe file starts downloading with the same name. this comes from spam sites. This is most irritative and sticky.

Spyware or Keylogger: This Program is designed by the hackers to keep spy on your device and to collect sensitive information such as Passwords, Usernames and other information like videos and photos.

Viruses: A virus is transferable Program or bad code that rest in another program. And Replicate itself by sharing of files.

Worm: It is a program which is designed to replicate itself and to destroy, damage and delete (EAT) data from the system. Which can lead to operating system (OS) failure.

Trojans: This is the most dangerous malware among all. Trojans pretends to be a legitimate program and tries to be a real program. Trojans carry payloads of different programs and can allow third party access to your pc. It can also infect your pc with adware. they also tries to access webcams and microphones.



Basic Working Of Antivirus and Anti-Malware

Antivirus: Antivirus works in a very traditional way. It uses a database called a virus dictionary, which has lots of code of different viruses. When antivirus scans a file it takes code of that and compares that with the code in virus dictionary. If it matches the file it Quarantine.
In simple way a virus dictionary may contain a hashes of viruses such as a MD5 Hash. When a antivirus scans a file it takes its MD5 Hash and compares it with its virus dictionary.
#Quarantine: Attempts to move the file to a safe location that is managed by the antivirus software.


Anti-Malware: The difference between the antivirus and anti-malware is that antimalware looks for pattern and latest trends that viruses tends to take up.
For example: If you ever used any anti-malware programs it blocks Skype sometimes. Because of the similarity and same pattern that both uses webcams and microphones. Thus anti-malware program flag Skype as a malware.
